Nora and Mike in AntarcticaChinstrap PenguinsFur Seal Pup - Galapagos

Wildlife expedition cruises to Antarctica, Central America, and Galapagos rekindled Nora’s love of wildlife and nature photography that had been on a 30 year hiatus with a busy career as a certified nurse midwife (CNM). The switch to the digital Canon Rebel and 7D from the film Olympus OM 1 made it possible to photograph in a variety of rugged environments, including the white continent that is Antarctica.

A native of Santa Barbara, Nora studied photography at the junior college in Coos Bay, Oregon after receiving a BSN from Humboldt State University and working in a local hospital. Borrowing a twin lens reflex Rolleiflex from a friend, she learned to appreciate the difficulty of shooting B&W film and the art of the darkroom. After graduate school at the University of Mississippi, Nora took additional photography courses at the Junior College in Farmington New Mexico while working with Indian Health Service on the Navajo reservation.

With her recent return to photography, she has become involved with local arts, camera club/photo society organizations as well as attending Canon photo shoots and has benefited from the ongoing education and advice to improve her craft. She is a member of the North American Nature Photography Association.
